Anna Marie was born in O'Brien County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter Vollink and Mabel Klink. She was an only child and grew up on the family farm. After graduating high school she attended one year of college in order to earn her rural teachers certificate. On June 4, 1948, she married Leroy E. Mueller. They lived and farmed ¾ mile west of Germantown. Five children were born to Leroy and Ann: Dennis, Gary, Patricia, Barbara and Joni. She died suddenly on Christmas Eve in 1987.
