Dr. Wanda Lee Bollier Hudson was born in Hamilton County, Texas on November 29, 1924. She attended Evergreen Elementary School, a one-room small country school. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1941 and attended Clifton Jr. College where she graduated in 1943. She earned a B.S. degree from the University of Texas-Austin in 1949; a Masters of Education in 1957, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the College of Education, Kansas State University in 1974. She began her teaching career at the age of 18 in Fairy, Texas. Her teaching positions included Pflugerville, Texas (5 years); Llano, Texas (2 years); Austin, Texas (2 years) and Okinawa, Japan (1 year). She returned to Austin, Texas to finish her Master's degree then on to Stuttgart, Germany for 2 years as Principal for Army Dependent Schools; was transferred to Verdun, France also to serve as Principal for Army Dependent Schools. She served in Salina, Kansas as counselor for public schools for 4 years while pursuing her PhD. Dr. Hudson became a faculty member at Troy University, Rhine Maine, Germany. She was Dean of Academic Affairs at Troy University in Wiesbaden, Germany, where she was responsible for the academic studies for American GI's entering the University. In this position, she traveled to Italy, Turkey, Spain and most European countries. Dr. Hudson returned to the United States and became Director of Academic Affairs for Health Sciences at Brooke Army Medical Center, retiring in 1996. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer for American Red Cross and the Fisher House at Brooke Army Medical Center. She married LTC Sumner Hudson, Jr. on September 6, 1964 and he preceded her in death on April 5, 2011. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
