Abner was a farmer and the son of Russell Craig Bell (1817-1885) and Matilda Johnson Bell (1826-between 1864 and 1868).

Abner had three wives:

1.) Lillie Belle (nee Eldridge) Bell (1863-1885)
They had one daughter: Alma B Bell (1884-1893)

2.) Arva L. (nee Coulter) Bell (1853-1880). Married 4 Sep 1879 Hamilton County.
They had one daughter: Stella (nee Bell) Guille (1880-1975)

3.) Sidney Lee Pearson Bell (1864-1944). Married in 1896.
They had one son: Jefferson Aaron Bell (1889-1939)

In addition, for some time Abner raised the two orphaned sons of his older brother Annanais Brazelton Bell (1844-1871) and his wife Martha M. "Belle" (nee Jack) Bell (1844-1878). Their names were:

Granville A. Bell (1869-Unknown)
Charles Monteith Bell (1870-1956)

Abner is listed as a Harrison Postmaster, June 6, 1881 in a book titled "James County -- A Lost County of Tennessee" by Polly W. Donelly.

Abner died in 1906 of unknown cause and was buried in Old Harrison Cemetery. While many bodies were moved due to the construction of the Chickamauga Dam, for some reason only his marker was moved.
