He was born in Surry County on Nov. 23, 1943, to Marshall Gilmer and Effie Nora Doss Hill.
He worked and retired after 34 years of service from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and he attended the Church of Corinth in Ararat.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Bruce Marshall Hill.
He is survived by his parents, Gilmer and Effie Hill of the home; a sister, Faye Hill Dodson of Rural Hall; a niece, Anita, and husband David Levens of Winston-Salem; and a nephew, Danny, and wife Shelly Dodson of Arizona.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 13, at Cox-Needham Chapel, with the Rev. Clayton Tilley officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today, Oct. 13, one hour before the service, and other times at his home on Toms Creek Road.
