Claton was the twin brother of Casper; Casper was killed in action during World War II. Claton was enlisted in the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota in 1940. He also served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Clara "Betty" Virnig in Hillman, MN on 13 Jun 1942. They had six children.
