Adolph Martin Hilgenberg, 76, a longtime Edgewater resident, died of emphysema Dec. 21 at South River Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born in Washington, D.C., Mr. Hilgenberg retired in 1980 after 44 years as a meat packer with Briggs Meat Packing Co. He formerly worked with the Wilson Meat Packing Co. in Washington.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Hilgenberg served in the coast artillery in Hawaii.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in Edgewater where he helped with bingo.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Mae Murphy Hilgenberg; two sons, Joseph Hilgenberg of Stevensville and Steven Hilgenberg of the home; four brothers, John Hilgenberg of Suitland, Edward P. Hilgenberg of Edgewater, Leonard Hilgenberg of Temple Hills and Albert Hilgenberg of Florida; three sisters, Margaret Musgrove of Edgewater, Louise Divver of Bladensburg and Annie Anderson of Clinton; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. A funeral mass will be said at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater. Burial will be in Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville.
