Mr. Thompson was a native of Toomsboro and had made his home in Jones County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Hoke Smith Thompson and Ola Pearl Payne Thompson and was predeceased by his wife Virginia Dale Holton Thompson.
He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in Korea on the flight deck of the USS Bennington. He was the owner operator of the Arctic Circle and Po Boys Drive Inn in Macon and retired as Jailer with the rank of SGT with the Jones County Sheriffs' office in 1995.
Survivors include his sons Mark Thompson and Harold(Michelle) Thompson of Haddock and Eric (Margie) Thompson and Mickey Thompson of Gray; sisters Elizabeth Davis of Pine Mountain, GA and Evie Griffin of Eatonton; 10 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to the Georgia Sheriffs Youth Home.
