Bud was a veteran of World War II having served as a sergeant with the Army's 328th Field Artillery Battalion.
Bud married Anna Snyder, and they became the parents of two daughters.
Prior to his retirement in 1978, he was the owner and operator of Shirey's Garage in Poplar Grove for 35 years before turning it over to Dan Casini, his "special son."
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Connellsville, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
At the age of 94, L.P. "Bud" Shirey, a lifelong resident of South Connellsville and the last surviving member of his immediate family died at home, Monday, July 11, 2011, just five days short of his 95th birthday.
Bud was survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna Snyder Shirey, of South Connellsville; two daughters, Brenda Smith and husband, Jim, of Monongahela, and Barbara Lloyd and husband, Scott, of Layton; two grandchildren, Sonya Smith , of Canonsburg, and Gareth Lloyd and wife, Colleen, of Vanderbilt; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Leah Pollack.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Fillburn, Dorothy Kerr and Margaret (Peg) Weihe.
Full military rites accorded by the VFW Post 21 and American Legion Posts 301 and 762.
