Evan Williams Jr., 54, of 207 Woodcroft Ave., Gordon Heights, died yesterday at the Riverside Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Williams was born in Onongah, W. Va., but lived most of his life in the Wilmington area. He owned and operated the Hi-Way Inn, 3806 Gov. Printz Blvd. He also served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1957 as a Chief Petty Officer.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 309 and the VFW, Hall-Burke Post 5447.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Verna H. Williams; a son, Evan Williams III, at home; his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Williams of Clifton Park; seven brothers, Jennings of Claymont, John E. of Edgemoor Gardens, Thomas of Airport Road, James of Kentucky, Walter of Woodlawn Park, Charles of Clifton Park and Richard of Willow Run; and two sisters, Mrs. June Wright of Edgemoor Gardens and Mrs. Alice Peters of Clifton Park.
Services will be Thursday morning at 11 at the McCrery Funeral Home, 2700 Washington St., where friends may call tomorrow night. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
