Corporal Short was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 6, 1950 and returned to duty on September 29, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Kujang, North Korea on November 28, 1950 and died while a prisoner on March 12, 1951 at Camp 5-Pyoktong, North Korea. His remains were not recovered. Moved to Seminole County at age three, east of Bowlegs, Oklahoma. According to Lavonnia Short-Babb, the "R V" in his name stood as initials, no names.
