Julia Etta (Crowder) Miles, 91, of Fairmont and formerly of Petersburg, Va., passed away Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2013) at her daughter's home.

She was born in Ettrick, Va., on Nov. 26, 1921, a daughter of the late John M. and Essie (Bridgewater) Crowder.

She was pre­ceded in death by her husband, Clawrence Miles.

Julia was a self-employed beautician by trade. She enjoyed reading and crocheting and was an avid dog lover, especially of Chihuahuas.

She is survived by one son, Newton Maxie Georgel Jr. of Virginia; one daughter, Mary Bunner and her husband Charlie of Fairmont; nine grandchildren, Julia Ellis, Terry Bunner, Elizabeth Georgel, Todd Georgel, Tripp Georgel, Linda Fravel, William Ellis Jr., Mona Brickey and Mel Bunner; as well as several great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a stepdaugh­ter, Emma Miles Agugliano of New York, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jane Bunner; six sisters, Rachel Crowder Lewis, Jean Crowder Wilson, Barbara Crowder Hancock, Lillian Crowder Gibbs, Vivian Crowder Novak and Blanche Crowder Fought; two brothers, John M. Crowder Jr. and Richard D. Crowder; and a stepson, Cornealious Carson Miles.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Visitation will continue from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the J. T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg Chapel, 103 S. Adams St., Petersburg, Va. The funeral service will be held at the J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Robert Livesay officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Va.
