Mr. Symbol was born Oct. 9, 1945, in Chicago, Ill. He completed high school, then served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He moved to Alaska in 1982, living in Anchorage until 1990. He then moved to the Big Lake area. Mr. Symbol was employed as a carpenter most of his life. '' 'Yo' was his trademark and favorite word, along with his American flag bandana, leather coat, engineer boots and belt buckle worn on his left side. He was extremely patriotic. If you were his friend, you knew you would never go hungry or homeless because he always made time for those in need.''
