Horace "Boy" Cross, Jr, 73, of Arcadia passed away with his family by his side, April 17, 2012.
Horace was born October 21, 1938 in Arcadia, Florida and has resided his entire life in DeSoto County. He was a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Horace married Gloria A. Mulling in 1959 and raised 4 sons and a daughter. He worked as an auto parts salesman for DeSoto Automotive, as well as, Newton Machine Shop. Horace was a member of the Elks Lodge, loved fishing, reading old western books, and a collector of John Wayne memorabilia. His family will remember him most as being a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and a good friend to many.
Horace is survived by his wife, Gloria Cross, of Arcadia, Florida, sons; Doug (Kathleen) Cross of Palm Harbor, Florida, David (Jenny) Cross of Arcadia, Florida, Danny (Valerie) Cross of Arcadia, Florida, Darren (Sharon) Cross, of Arcadia, Florida, daughter, Michele (Paul) Cox, of Arcadia, Florida, grandchildren; Stephen, Caden, Kayla, Dalton, Shelby, Casen, Harley "Poppa's sugar bear" Cross and Ryan and Evan Hipp, and Clint Keen. Horace was preceded in death by his son, Michael Carl Cross, parents; Horace Cross, Sr. and Bernice Cross, sisters; Wilma Gillard, Winnie Miller, and Wanda Patton.
Visiting hours will be Friday, April 20, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Robarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10 am at Pine Level United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Joshua Creek Cemetery with a fellowship following at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia, Florida.
