Lloyd L. Hankins, 80, died Friday, Sept. 14, 1990, in Bonanza.

He was born to Lawrence M. and Jess F. Bement Hankins in Colorado and grew up on the family ranch.

Mr. Hankins moved with his family to Saginaw, near Cottage Grove, where he and his father and family operated a dairy from 1926 to 1937.

He married Iola W. Davison, Jan 12, 1931, in Spokane,Washington.

In 1937 they moved to Bonanza, where they raised cattle and grew hay. They developed and farmed land in conjunction with his father and his family in the Bonanza and Swan Lake area. They developed the first successful irrigation wells in the Swan Lake area.

Mr. Hankins was active in the Farm Bureau from its beginning in Klamath County. He was instrumental in getting the first rural modern telephone lines for the Bonanza area. He helped to get the first rural fire truce and helped organize the Bonanza Rural Fire District, the Klamath County Park Board, the Horselfy Irrigation District and the Klamath Basin Water Users Association. He was a charter member of the Bonanza Lions Club and a member of the Klamath Falls Gospel Mission, and served on the board of deacons of the Bonanza Community Church.

Mr. Hankins enjoyed children. He and his wife raised many foster children in addition to their son.

Survivors are his wife; son and daughter-in-law, LaVerne and Chris, Bonanza, foster daughters Nancy Smith, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Charlotte Smith, Cornelius; numerous other foster children; brothers, Allen and K.W., Klamath Falls; sisters, Clara Belle Sullivan, Marian Doran and Bessie Lea Berry, Salem, and Louise Puckett, Klamath Falls; grandchildren, Linden, Daniel and Roger Hankins, Bonanza, La Vonne Halsey, Seattle, and Delores Hankin, Brockport, NY; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Orrin; and a sister, Alvina Hankins.
