DECATUR - Marta Gaye Smith, 48, of Decatur died 7:05 p.m. Friday (Aug. 16, 2002) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. John's Lutheran Church with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: Macon Resources or St. John's Lutheran Church.

Marta was a special and loving person to all who knew her. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her church. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was employed by Macon Resources. She was a wonderful daughter, born Sept. 5, 1953, in Decatur, to John W. and Lela L. Billerman Smith. She was a devoted sister to her two brothers and two sisters and their families. She was a wonderful aunt to her eight nieces and nephews and an inspirational friend to all who witnessed her miracle of love. Marta's special gift included her ability to look past darkness to find the light in people and the beauty in all things. Her many wonders and gifts will be remembered in the hearts and memories of those who loved her.

Surviving are her mother; brothers, the Rev. Greg Smith and wife Alayne; Tim Smith; sisters, Lesley Seay and husband David; Tricia Mischel and husband Mark; nieces and nephews, Rachel and Lindsey Livingston; Clark Smith; Philip and Mindy Smith; Tyler, Daniel and Nathan Mischel.

She was preceded in death by her father and newborn baby brother, John Michael Smith.
