Son of Eld. Jessie F. and Vesta Callie May Stapleton Abernathy. He married Laurine Abernathy, daughter of Alford F. Abernathy and Hettie Fryar Abernathy, on June 22, 1946 in Montgomery Co., Arkansas. They were the parents of five children.
He is survived at death by his wife of 67 years, Laurine Abernathy; four daughters; one son; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister.
He served his country proudly as a World War II Veteran. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of God and was an Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church.
