Essie Mae Bradshaw Ellis, 81, died Aug. 6, 2005, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ellis was a native of Southampton County and was a daughter of the late Roy and Kent Lowe Bradshaw. She was a member of Hunterdale Baptist Church and was retired from Hancock Peanut Company. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jessie Robert Ellis Jr.; four daughters, Helen E. Carr and husband John of Courtland, Mary E. Parker and husband Doug of Eure, N.C., Patricia E. Davis and husband Bobby and Sheila E. Ward and husband Jim, all of Courtland; a son, Jessie Robert Ellis III and wife Donna of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ellis was predeceased by a sister, Mary B. Deems and a grandson, Jessie Robert Ellis IV. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley, with the Rev. Chuck Worth officiating. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and suggest memorials be made to Sedley Fire Department, 18080 Johnsons Mill Road, Sedley, VA 23878.
