He resided at 42 Farbridge, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 18, 1941 in Syracuse, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Optician, lens grinder, and polisher by Hawk-eye Works and also as Single, without dependents.

Melvin was "Killed In Action" in Belgium during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Service # 32039235

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on December 4, 1947.
