Known as "Cleve" he was the son of Samuel Ulysses Grant Clanton and Annie Isabell Hemphill; married Verda Rose Stokes 23 July 1923 in Rogers County, Oklahoma.
Obituary: Cleve F. Clanton, 83, died Wednesday at a Tulsa hospital following a brief illness. He was born December 17, 1898 at Cassville, Missouri and had been a resident of Craig and Rogers Counties since 1900. Clanton was a retired restaurant owner and operator and farmer and rancher.
Clanton was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Survivors include his widow, Verda, of the home at 730 East Tahlequah; two daughters, Clestene (Celestine) Humphreys, Washington, Illinois and Cleve Ellen Inman, Afton; two sons, Argene Clanton, 629 N. Gunter and Tom Clanton, 319 East Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Dorma Nelson, Tia Juana and Mrs. Flossie Scoufas, Claremore, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Burckhalter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary Boatright, Presbyterian minister, officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Burckhalter Funeral Home, Vinita.
