Funeral services for Monica Faith Young Bear (Wanbli Koyaki Win), age 47, of Eagle Butte will be at 11 AM MT, Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Cultural Center in Eagle Butte.
Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Red Scaffold under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Monica started her journey to the creator on October 1, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.
She was born on June 12, 1966 in Eagle Butte to Kenneth and Darlene (Knife) Young Bear. She was enrolled in Cheyenne River and on her father's side, Hidatsa, was a member of the Knife clan. The third of five children, she attended school and graduated from Eagle Butte High School. From there, she moved to Ft. Yates, ND and attended Sitting Bull College in the Arts Program.
After completion, she moved to Fort Kipp, MT and worked as a Home Health Care provider. She loved taking care of elders and children.
After returning from Montana she worked with the Head Start program in Eagle Butte. On Jan. 9, 1996 her Godson, Patrick Lone Eagle was born and she became a solid pillar in his life.
Shortly after that she moved to Bismarck and helped raise her nephew, Scott Young Bear and her nieces and nephews; Victor, Christopher, Rosa, Whitley and Whitney Still Day.
Then in 1999 her niece, Eva was born followed by her nephews, Justin and Jasper. When these three moved to Mandaree, ND she followed them and made it her home. Eva, Justin, Jasper and Patrick were her world and she did all she could for them.
She was comical, loved to laugh, have fun and taught them how to laugh at themselves. She jokingly referred to herself as "Shelly Knife from Faith, SD."
She is survived by her two brothers, Melvin and David, sister, Angela, Niece, Eva Garreau, Nephews, Scott Young Bear, Justin and Jasper Garreau and family members, Sadie Mann, Lila Gwin, Fern Bullhead, Frank Bullhead, Kenny Bullhead, Bethany Bullhead, Jana Walker, Chaston Bullhead, Cathy Gardipe, Victor Still Day, Christopher Still Day, Rosa Lone Bear, Whitley Still Day, Whitney Still Day, Valerie Bullhead, Xavier Tortalita, Coraetta Tortalita, Cecelia Tortalita, Mavis Young Bear, Yvette Young Bear, Natalie White Singer, Ruth Mann, Jennifer Mann, Merrill Mann Jr., Louise Widow, Lavonne Looking Elk, Ted Knife Jr., Jordon Knife, Brittany Brewer, Phil Knife, Georgette Knife, Clay, Charlie, Calyn and Mary Knife, Randall Knife, Brady, Justin, Shawn, Shawna, and Jacob Knife, Wendell Knife, Gabby and Alanna Knife and Mary Knife.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Darlene, sister, Maryetta, paternal grandparents, David and Coraetta Young Bear, maternal grandparents, George and Mary Knife, uncles, Ted Knife Sr., Clifford Young Bear and aunts, Viola Charging Cloud and Cecelia Young Bear.
