A SAD DEATH
Young Man Passes Away in Prime of Life, Interment made here on Sunday Afternoon.
Valentine Skluzacek died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Skluzacek, in Wheatland township at 3:15 A.M. on Friday, January 20, 1911, after a lingering illness of tuberculosis.
He was born on February 13, 1882 in Wheatland township and lived there until he went to Lonsdale in 1905 to accept the position of manager of the Skluzacek Bros. Lumber Co. He filled this position with credit until he took sick in April 1909. He then went to Denver, Colorado, in the hopes of benefitting his health and remained there until May 1910, when he came home to remain and remained until he died as above stated.
It is sad indeed to see a young life that was so full of promise and had so much to live for pass away. He was a kind and dutiful son and his honesty and amiable disposition won the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He was a devout Christian and was fortified in his last hours by the last rites of the Catholic church, of which he was a lifelong devout member.
He was a member of the Catholic Workman, in which he had an insurance of $1000, and a member of the Z.C.K.J., in which he had a policy of $500. Both societies from Lonsdale attended the funeral in a body.
Besides his parents, he leaves five sisters and seen brothers: Mrs. John Kucera, of Lanesburg township; Joseph F. Skluzacek, of Wheatland township; Jacob C. Skluzacek, of LeSueur Center; Albert J. Skluzacek, of Maple Lake, Minn., Mrs. Joseph J. Schatz, of Montgomery; Mrs. Michael W. Lepeska, of Lonsdale; Frank and Thomas Skluzacek, of Wheatland township;. Father Augustine Skluzacek, O. S. B., of Pueblo, Colorado; Anthony and Catherine Skluzacek, who are at home; and Josephine Skluzacek, who is attending school at St. Joseph, Minn., to mourn his death.
The funeral was held from St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in this city at three o'clock on Sunday afternoon, Rev. F. Bouska, assisted by Rev. Dean J. K. Cermak, conducted the services. A very large crowd accompanied the remains here and they were joined here by a very large crowd, who assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to one they loved. The interment was made in the local cemetery by the side of his brother, John.
A requiem high mass was celebrated in Lonsdale on Monday morning by Rev. F. Bouska.
We join their many friends in extending our sympathies with the family.
