James S. Alexander, 77, of Greeley died Thursday at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born September 15, 1931 in Elmo, Missouri to Arthur and Margaret (Benham) Alexander. He was the second to the youngest child in his family. Jim graduated from Elmo High School in 1949. On May 8, 1951 Jim married Joyce E. Jones in Elmo. Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served in the Vietnam War, receiving a Bronze Star. He retired from the military after serving 21 ½ years. After leaving the military Jim worked for Armco Steele Company in Denver and retired after 17 years, then began working as a greeter for Walmart. Jim loved golfing after his retirement, and enjoyed all other sports. Jim enjoyed teaching Sunday School and socializing with other residents at Bonell Good Samaritan, where he lived for the past few years. He was a member of the Grace Church in Greeley.

Jim is survived by three sons; Steven Lee of Greeley, Stan and wife Gail of Greeley, and Mark and wife, Lisa of Greeley; five grandchildren, Benjamin and wife Jennifer, Lindsay, Tivis, Kayla Hastings and husband Bret, David, and step grandchild, Heather Enders and husband Patrick. He is also survived by two step grandchildren, Tyler and Courtney Enders, and sister, Dorothy Degase of Maryville, MO.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, parents; and nine siblings.
