L. Bearden Chambers of Madison, Ga., retired president of the Bank of Madison, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday at Emory University Hospital. He was 80.
The graveside service was today at Morgan Memorial Park in Madison.
Mr. Chambers was president of the bank from 1962 to 1984 and chairman of the board of directors for a year until retiring. He worked for the bank for about 45 years.
At various times, Mr. Chambers also farmed and owned a cotton gin, a peach orchard and peach packing shed, and a lumberyard and planing mill.
Levy Bearden Chambers was born July 26, 1906, in Madison and graduated from the University of Georgia.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Spearman Chambers; a son, William B. Chambers of Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Bennett of Madison and Mrs. Jane Bostwick of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Pryor of Madison; and six grandchildren.
