Henry met his first wife, Martha Lavinia Madison, while attending Monmouth College, where they were both on the yearbook staff in 1931/1932. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi, while he was a member of Beta Kappa. They married at her parents' home in Kansas City, Kansas on 7 September 1931 but later divorced. He married Wilma Cleo Harper on 19 June 1937 in Altadena, California and resided in California until at least 1944.

A December 1934 newspaper article stated a new amateur radio club had formed in Monmouth, with John Keith Irey (W9PLN) president, Richard Leroy Strand (W9RPY) vice-president, and Henry Pattee (no call) as secretary. His associates in the club let their licenses expire after their 3-year terms (1936-1937), and it was some time before Henry, who had resettled in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife, received his own call. John Irey did take to the airwaves again from 1958-1968 under his former callsign.

Henry was found with the reissued callsign of W9RLK at 2022 North Burlington Road, Chicago, IL (1947-1952); 1118 South Sumner Street, Wheaton, IL (1953-1962); and 1232 South Laurel Lane, Naperville, IL (1963-1966). He was cited as a resident of Naperville when named his mother's executor in 1963. His wife's obituary stated they moved to Mountain Home, AR in 1966.

With the move to Mountain Home, Arkansas, Henry received the reissued callsign of W5POH, listed there in the 1968 and later callbooks. His advanced class license was last renewed in Mountain Home on 22 September 1987. The Thursday 7 July 1988 issue of "Baxter Bulletin", Mountain Home, Arkansas stated Pat Pattee (W5POH) and Bob Radkey (K9RPX) would host club members and guests at their respective radio stations from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, to demonstrate a working amateur radio station to anyone interested in becoming a member of the Ozark Amateur Radio Club. A 1971 issue of "73" magazine stated contest scores for the First Annual 5th District QSO Party should be sent to his address. He is listed as a past member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association. He was a member of the OzARC (Ozark Amateur Radio Club), who donated to the Mountain Home library building fund in his memory. His second wife, Wilma, donated Audobon bird videos to the library in his memory.
