LEE, CAROLINE E. (nee PAYNE)a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed away Sunday October 13, 2013, in Durant at the age of 84, formerly of Dallas and Livingston, Texas. Caroline was born July 24,1929 to Horace and Gretchen Payne in Kansas City, Missouri. Devoted wife of 15 years to James Lee. Loving mother to Caron (Craig) Van Dyck, Sarah (Robert) Aberg, Mary (Michael) Wlodarski and Charles (Sheridan) Cummings; cherished grandmother and Honey to John Van Dyck, Gretchen Van Dyck, Sarah (Kyle Ewing) Aberg, Emily Aberg, Nicholas Wlodarski, Caroline Wlodarski and Samantha Cummings; fond great-grandmother to Charles and Thomas Ewing. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a retired teacher and will be remembered as an avid golfer who won many scrambles, Senior Tournaments and three "holes in one".
She loved art and was very active in the Texhoma Art Association. Some of her favorite activities included spending time with her family, enjoying a good laugh, gardening, reading, taking photographs, and participating in the Bryan County Federation of Democratic Women. She was an active member of St John's Episcopal Church and past president of the Daughters of the King.
Preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Charles R. Cummings and Aaron Epstein; parents, Gretchen (Dunaway) and Horace Payne and sister, Suzanne (Payne) Goodman. Survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Oct 22, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church in Durant OK. Luncheon reception will follow for guests in attendance.
