Col. George C. Sims, 88, died Jan. 4, 2003 at Mountain Towers Healthcare in Cheyenne. He was the son of Chester and Nellie Sims. He attended Douglas schools and graduated college with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1937. He attended Army schools, including the Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Command and General Staff College. Col. Sims was a surveyor and engineer for the Army, serving in World War II in the 6th Infantry Division in Hawaii, New Guinea, the Philippines and Korea. He was a highly decorated military veteran. His long years of service included a final assignment as U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer for the Wyoming National Guard. He retired in 1975. He moved to Cheyenne in 1966. He is survived by his son Lt. Col. Jon Sims of Cheyenne; daughters Carol Krumm of Casper and Barbara Nichols of Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Anna Sims; his parents; and brother Art C. Sims. (Information was obtained from his obituary in the Douglas Budgets, Douglas, Wyoming.)
