Marilyn M. Slocum, 70, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. The Rev. Don Fitzpatrick will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Homes, Geneseo, where a parish rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Marilyn Slocum Memorial Fund.

The former Marilyn Bierman was born April 2, 1928, in Rock Island, the daughter of Floyd K. and Jessy Mae Green Bierman. She married Thomas T. Slocum on March 12, 1949, in Rock Island. She had been the bookkeeper for her family business, Reliable Shoe Store and Repair, for 40 years.

Mrs. Slocum was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church for 45 years and a member of Iowa Kidney Foundation. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues in the WIBC. She also enjoyed bird watching and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas T. Slocum, Geneseo; daughters, Barbara Wolfe, Country Club Hills, Ill., and Deborah Slocum, Moline; a son, Thomas W. Slocum, Geneseo; three grandsons; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and William Lawrence, Rock Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jess and Cynthia Bierman, New Lenox, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd.
