NOEL J. YOUNG, age 89, of Marengo, died Sunday morning October 13, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on February 13, 1924 in Clendenin, West Virginia to the late Phillip and Virginia (Hayes) Young. A resident of Marengo all of his life living on the family farm and was a graduate of Marengo High School Class of 1942. He was a retired farmer, a self employed contract pumper of oil wells and had worked on the construction of I-71. He was a two time all county baseball player, all county basketball and a member of the 1942 County Basketball Champion team. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. Member of Chester Lodge No. 238 F&AM, Marengo Highland School Board for 11 years, Morrow County Fair Board for 15 years and committee for the ASC Office for a number of years.

Noel enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. After retirement Noel spent 32 winters in Ruskin, Florida enjoying the warm winter weather. Noel in recent years liked to reminisce about his younger years playing sports and the people he played with and against. He and his two grandsons were to be inducted into the Marengo/Highland Athletic Hall of Fame in December, 2013.

He is survived by sons: Mike (Sandra) of Belle Valley, Bill (Debbie), Ron (Joan), Randy (Kris) all of Marengo; daughter: Ginger (Leo) Harding of Westerville; daughter-in-law: Beverly Young Pottmeyer of Reno, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Martha Young of Marengo, Evelyn Young of Ashley.

Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years: Margaret J. (Palmer) Young on July 10, 2007; son: Wayne; brothers: Holly, Charles, Noble, Leon, Jim, Kenneth; sister: Gussie Thaxton.

Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m., Masonic Service at 7 p.m., at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury. Graveside services will be held Friday 11 a.m. in the Marengo Cemetery with Pastor James Brantingham officiating.
