Obituary

John Jefferson Belveal was born in Lafyette[sic], Indiana, February 23rd, 1834. Died at Enid, Oklahoma, May 25th 1919, aged eighty-five years, three months and two days.
In early life he moved with his parents to Keokuk, Iowa where he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Blue. To this union was born ten children, three, together with the mother, having preceded him. Seven survive, five of whom are present. The children are Anse Benson of Lavern, Okla., Ed Belveal of Enid, Okla., Mahala Griffin Odell, Ark., Frank Belveal of Enid, Alonzo Belveal, Cushing, Okla., Hattie Crosley, Guthrie, Okla., and Kate McCoy, Breckenridge, Colo.
He and his wife accepted Christ early in their married life and united with the Christian church, living a consistent christian life, until the end; bringing up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, never entertaining a thought of worry as to the life and conduct of their children, fully trusting in a higher power to guide them.
He moved to Kansas in 1871, and to Oklahoma in 1887, coming to Garber in 1904, where he has been well and favorably known by the community, who join the family in their bereavement.
Since the death of his wife, his life has been a patient waiting for the call to his reward of the life that never grows old, admonishing his children and friends to live for God and the world to come.
He passed to his reward in the quiet, sweet way, leaving an open book of a useful life, as a memorial to all.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, in the Christian church, at Garber, Rev. J. W. Umphries officiating. The body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Garber cemetery. The Garber friends extended their heart-felt sympathy to the family in this their hour of sorrow.

From the Garber Sentinel. (Garber, Okla.), Vol. 20, No. 35, Thursday, May 29, 1919.
