John R. Baranoski, 73 of Ft. Lauderdale, FL passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 24, 2013. John is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Lou and his loving cats, Babygirl & Missy and a sister, Connie (Elbie) Thompson. He is predeceased by his parents, John & Verna, brother, Robert and sister, Geraldine. John was born in Old Forge, PA on Aug. 12, 1940. He served 5 years in the US Air Force before going on to become a Philadelphia Fire Fighter, until he and Mary Lou relocated to Florida in 1969. He worked as an Operating Engineer many years and retired from the Broward Co. School Board. John, a 6th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Style Karate, taught & trained for 53 years. He was the Sensei (Chief Instructor) of the Florida Karate Academy where he instructed thousands of students. His wit & humor touched many friends & relatives. He will be deeply missed by all who know him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (today), 10 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1701 E. Oakland Park Blvd, Oakland Park. Interment will be held at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Donations in his memory are suggested to a no kill animal shelter or a charity of your choice . Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Kalis-McIntee Funeral & Cremation Center, Wilton Manors, FL.
