Mr. McAvoy was a native of Wilkes County and was the son of the late Lawrence and Willie Young McAvoy. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force 83rd Airdrome.
Survivors include two sisters, Dell M. James of Washington, and Helen M. Wilson of Tignall.
Pallbearers included Ronnie James, Thomas McAvoy, Joey Scott, Jeremy Johnson, Chet Wilson, and Virgil Wolter.
Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangement.
