--Son of Willis Yates and wife Miranda Osborn. He grew up in Guilford County.
--Occupation: Farmer
--Confederate Veteran; he enlisted in August 1864 and served as a Private in Company A, 52nd NC Infantry. He surrendered at Appomattox in 1865.
--He married #1 Mary Frances Shoe on November 13, 1865 in Cabarrus County. They lived in Cabarrus County in 1870 and 1880. They had moved to Rowan County by 1900. They had 11 children: William F., John C., Carrie A., Evetta, George Hezekiah, Mary Clementine, Rosa Merica, Lillie Belle, Christena, Minnie Mae, Charles Monroe Yates.
--Following his wife's death, he married #2 Evy Ann Eller on Sept. 15, 1901. No children of this marriage.
--His brother James C. Yates is also interred at Organ Lutheran Church.
