Eugene Thomas, 61, died Aug. 18 at Our Lady of Compassion Care Center following a lengthy illness. A visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kehl's Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel. A private family graveside service with full military honors will be conducted later at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Mr. Thomas was born July 1, 1928, in Marion, Ala. He was a retired U.S. Air Force sergeant, serving from 1951 to 1970. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the Alaska Railroad as a truck driver until he became ill. He was a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church and a past member of the NCO Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and leisure time with his friends and family. He leaves his wife, Ethel, of Anchorage; his sons, Eugene Jr., of Seattle, Martin, Matthew, and Timothy, all of Anchorage; his daughters, D. Lee Williams, Paula Hutton, and Tracie Thomas, all of Anchorage; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, 406 W. Fireweed Lane, Suite 101, Anchorage, 99503. Service arrangements are by Kehl's Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel.
