Charles Augustus Haile was born January 6th, 1878, not long after his parents Lorenz (1830-1911) and Catherina Maringer Haile (1833-1917)moved to Shamokin from Schuylkill County Pa. He was in the butcher business with his brothers Michael & Francis, eventually purchasing their interests around 1920. On November 8th, 1922 there was massive fire, apparently originating in the MJ Haile & Brother's store. As a result of the burns he received, Charles died at 1AM on November 9th, 1922.

Charles married Elizabeth Callaghan (1877-1944) of nearby Locust Gap. Charles & Elizabeth were the parents of Charles Haile (1907-1969); Marie Haile Pease (1909-1972); Robert Haile (1918-1990); and Margaret Haile (1908-1908). After the sudden death of Charles in 1922, Elizabeth and her children migrated to the Washington DC area
