Alta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved her family and considered her only two granddaughters, the light of her life. In addition to the love she had for her family, anyone who knew Alta knew of her love for Elvis. Thankfully, two years before her passing, she achieved her lifelong dream of visiting Graceland. Alta believed in the Lord and often spoke of His wonderful creations and never ceased to be amazed by natures beauty such as a serene sunset of puffy, white clouds.Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Akers along with her parents Freesia and Elmer Moore, three sisters: Azalene Ridings, Faye Whited and Juanita Payne; along with three brothers: John Calvin, Wayne Keith and Walter (Buck) Moore.Those left behind to miss her terribly are daughter, Suzi Akers Phelps, and husband, Grant, of Chesapeake, VA along with granddaughters Rori and Lindsey Phelps of Chesapeake. Additional survivors include sisters: Brenda Ewing of Pennington Gap; Regena Robbins and brother-in-law Jerry of Woodway; Barbara Ridings of Dryden and Edna Hall of Michigan; brothers Bill Moore of Indiana and Colin Moore of the Ben Hur community; along with numerous nieces and nephews that she loved as if they were her own.
Visitation for Alta Akers will be conducted Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm with the funeral services beginning at 8:00pm with the Rev. Paul Davis, Jr. officiating. She will be laid to rest, next to her husband, at Lee Memorial Gardens on Sunday, October 13. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00 noon for a procession to the graveside service.
