Funeral services were held in the Holden Ward Chapel at 11 a.m. on March 11. The house was filled to capacity with relatives and friends from far and near, who came to pay their last respects to this noble man Edward Bennett.

The services were in charge of Bishop J.C. Poulson. The good music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. George Barton and a mixed quartet under the direction of Prof. T. Leo Jacobs of Fillmore. The invocation was offered by Joseph Beckstrand and the benediction by Edward A. Wood. The speakers were John Wood, Atty. Grover Giles, Richard Nixon, E. F. Stevens and James Blake with closing remarks by Bishop Poulson. J.D. Stephenson dedicated the grave.

Edward Bennett was born in North Wales, Jan. 3, 1848. He came to Utah with his parents and brothers and sister in 1862, arriving in Fillmore in October of that year. The family spent the winter there and the following spring moved to Deseret, where Mr. Bennett helped to build the fort there. In 1868, the family moved to Holden and it was there where the deceased met Elizabeth J. Wood to whom he was married in 1877.

He was ward clerk for nine years, was manager of the Holden Co-Op for several years and was also postmaster for some time. He served as School Trustee for ten years.

In 1887 he returned to England as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; he presided over the Manchester Conference for five months. On his return trip from England, he had charge of a company of saints who were also coming over from England. Mr. Bennett was counselor to the late Bishop A.Y. Stephenson for 14 years. For many years he had charge of the Holden Ward Choir and his family has since taken an active part in furnishing church music for this ward. Civil offices held by him were County Assessor for one term, sheep inspector for some time and water master on Sevier River for a number of years. He has always been one of the leading characters in building up the community.
