He was born in Stokes County on January 8, 1925 to Roy Sanford and Bessie Ida Tilley Bennett.
He retired from the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation. He was a compassionate, tenderhearted man, putting everyone else first. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a good friend to all. He attended Flat Shoals Primitive Baptist Church.
A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Joey Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Reid Bennett and a granddaughter, Hope Lynn Duggins, son-in-law, Jammie Smith, four Sisters and three Brothers.
He is survived by his children, Ron Bennett and wife Carolyn, Gail Smith, Diane Fulp, Shelia Ingle and husband Brad, Marlene Church and husband Buster and Robbie Bennett and wife Merinda; 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Georgie George and Barbara Oxdine, one brother-in-law, Roy Ried.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter Marlene and Buster Church.
