"William A. Mathis, 87, a retired grocer, died yesterday at Mercy Hospital. He lived at 310 N. 16th.
Mathis once operated a grocery at 2109 Corning. He ran a store in Coffeyville for eight years, retiring and returning to Parsons in 1947.
He was born June 15, 1871 at Chariton, Iowa, and came to Parsons in 1892. He was married in Parsons on October 13, 1895 to Nellie Davis who died Nov., 30, 1906.
Mathis belonged to the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
He is survived by two sons, Lloyd, Leavenworth, and Harry, R. 2, Coffeyville; a brother Leslie, Picher, Okla; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body is at Shigley Funeral Home where friends may call.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Shigley's with the Rev. Donald W. Bumgarner officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery."
