He was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Mai Bass; son, Joe Howard Bass; grandson, Robert Judson Hollis; son-in-law, William Aubrey Gentry; step-mother, Clara Mae Bass and brothers, Robert and John Howard Bass. Gilford was a member of Giles Creek Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by 3 daughters, Earline Hollis of Danville, IN, Mary Gentry and Gale Bass both of Smyrna; grandchildren, William Chad Gentry, Jason Aubrey Gentry, James Howard Bass, Angela Jo Petty; great grandchildren, Andrew, Shelby, Wyatt, Kayla, Chad, Destiny and Taylor; adopted grandchildren, Marsha, Glenn, David, Robert and Jean Hollis and numerous adopted great grandchildren; a niece and nephew. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pall bearers. Interment with military honors at Cunningham Cemetery.
