ANAWALT — Jimmy Carr "JC" Yates, age 87, of (Leckie) Anawalt, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the McDowell Nursing and Rehab Center in Gary.

Born in Anawalt on June 16, 1926, he was a son of the late, Bunyon and Mary Rebecca Bowman Yates. He worked for US Steel in Gary and was a member of the UMWA. He was also a member of the Long Point Baptist Church in Spencer Curve.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Barney, Pierce and Johnny Yates; a sister, Dovey Belcher; and an infant sister. He was the last surviving member of his family.

JC is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan Irene Cochran Yates of the home; two sons, Randall (Debbie) Yates of Hagerstown, Md. andJim (Indra) Yates of Shreveport, La.; three step-sons, Arlie (Tammy) Roark of Leckie, Calvin (Tammy) Roark of Anawalt, and Jim (Racheal) Roark of Anawalt; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two favorite nephews, Jerry (Mildred) Yates of Shawsville, Va. and Donald Ray (Nancy) Dillon of Plantation, Fla.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Reverend Donnie Farmer, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
