Attended Centre College with his brother Henry at Danville, Kentucky.

He married Susan E. Mayer Sept. 10 1856 in Marshall County Mississippi. Their son Henry's death certificate indicated her maiden name was Moyer.

Military Service:
CSA, 154 Senior Regiment Tennessee Infantry. (1 Tenn. Vols.). He entered the war with the rank of Private, and left with the rank of Private. Pardoned on the October 27 1865.

In his will he mentions he leaves behind two "small and helpless children" and appoints his friend and their Uncle Adrian Mayer of Marshall County Mississippi as guardian.

Information about his wife:
She was born about 1833. She died Feb. 21, 1863 in Holly Springs, Marshall County Mississippi. Her parents were Adrian N. Mayer and Martha Lumpkin Mayer. I spoke to Larry who works for the City of Holly Springs. He checked interment records for Hill Crest Cemetery, where her parents are buried, and said there was no record of her being buried there. At this time her burial location remains unknown.
