US Congressman. Elected to represent Louisiana's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1855 to 1859. During the Civil War he was a Confederate Military Aide to John Slidell and was captured along with Slidell and James Mason aboard the steamer "HMS Trent" by Union Navy Captain Charles Wilkes.
