The daughter of George Machen and Sarah Beswick, Frances Machen may have been married three times. Her first husband, who she married in 1860 in Salt Lake City, Utah, was Albert Merrill. To this union were born eight children. After Albert's death, Frances married William Mitchell Ball about 1875 but they parted ways after the death of their child Joseph who was born on March 16,1876 and died on June 18,1876. Later, Frances married a Mr. Carr.
