Ethel Evelyn Carroll Gullion, age 75, of Springfield, Missouri passed peacefully away on Sunday, September 8, 2013, after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer‘s.

Born July 2, 1938 in Jacksonville, Florida to Roy Carroll, Sr. and Ethel Evelyn Slade Carroll. She had one older brother Roy Carroll, Jr., one younger brother, Joseph Donald Carroll, and one younger sister, Carolyn Ann Carroll. She was united in marriage to Albert Charles Gullion, Sr. on September 15, 1962 to whom she remained a faithful and loving wife until his death on January 6, 2003. Through their union, she became the mother of three children, Albert Charles Gullion, Jr., Andrew Stephen Gullion, and Rebecca Ruth Gullion. She endeavored to be the very best possible wife and mother, and achieved those goals gloriously. Ethel epitomized the Proverbs 31 woman, and her children do indeed rise up to call her blessed. During her life, her travels led her from her city of origin to Willow Springs, Missouri in 1972, and then after her husband's passing in 2003, to Springfield, Missouri where she spent her last years under the loving care of her daughter. She had been active in the Willow Springs United Methodist Church through most of her adult life and was always involved in the church choir and teaching Sunday School. Her many talents, including both singing and the ability to teach children, were a joy to herself, as they were to all others who benefited from them. After moving to Springfield, Missouri, she became actively involved at Evangel Temple Christian Center, where she sang in the choir and also served as a part-time employee. For many years, silently, yet steadily Alzheimer's robbed her, little by little, of her remarkable mind. Though none of us knew that diagnosis until very late in her life, we understood how much Dad cared for Mom, with love and patience, helping her when she became confused or stressed. She was a fighter to the end, ultimately succumbing to Alzheimer's.

Survived by her three children, Albert Charles Gullion, Jr., of West Plains, Missouri, Andrew Stephen Gullion and his wife, Clydia Clayton Baer Gullion, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Rebecca Ruth Gullion, of Springfield, Missouri. She had four grandchildren, Abigail Catherine Gullion Cooke and her husband Gregory Leigh Cooke, of Lismore, New South Wales, Australia, Nathaniel Paul Gullion, of West Plains, Missouri, and Brianna Alexis Gullion and Joseph Nathan Gullion, of Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was also survived by her older brother, Roy Carroll, Jr. and her younger sister, Carolyn Ann Carroll. In addition she was survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by the husband who loved her so dearly, Albert Charles Gullion, Sr., by her parents, Roy Carroll Sr., and Ethel Evelyn Slade Carroll, and her younger brother, Joseph Donald Carroll.

Though reunited in death with the husband she so dearly loved, and the parents and brother who preceded her in death, she was dearly loved by all that knew her in this life; and will be deeply missed until we meet again in a place of peace and comfort, where tears do not flow and loved ones part no more.

Graveside services will be held at Willow Springs City Cemetery, under the direction of Willow Funeral Home, Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 2 PM.
