Actor. He played a detective in the first "100% All-Talking Picture", "Lights of New York" (1928), and was thereafter typecast for cop roles, especially in Warner Bros. films of the 1930s. His credits include "The Mirror" (1917), "Resurrection" (1918), "Man and Wife" (1923), "The Doorway To Hell" (1930), "Five Star Final" (1931), "The Star Witness" (1931), "The Maltese Falcon" (1931), "Heroes for Sale" (1933), "Circumstantial Evidence" (1935), "The Roaring Twenties" (1939), "Made for Each Other" (1939), "Gone With the Wind" (as a Yankee officer, 1939), "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" (1940), and "The Devil's Playground" (1946). The Ohio-born Elliott acted in touring stage companies before coming to Hollywood. He appeared in 100 films between 1916 and 1946.
