Phillip David "Phil" Farmer, 64, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013. Born in Norton, Va., on December 26, 1948, he was the son of Gladys C. Farmer and the late Emmett S. Farmer. Phil served his county in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and during Desert Storm, later joining the Army Reserves. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Pierce Farmer. Survivors include his children, David Farmer, Mike Farmer, Travis Farmer, Heather Widener, and Courtney Farmer; his mother, Gladys C. Farmer; grandchildren, Noah and Bailey Farmer, Savannah and Emma Farmer, Christine and Owen Farmer, Gavin Wolfe, and Caleb Widener; brother, Neil Farmer and wife, Donna; sister, Cathy Farmer; niece, Leslie Fields; and nephews, Jarrod Farmer, and Ben Farmer. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Owens Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, before the service. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon with military graveside rites conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864.
