Paul J. Sisak, 78, of Canadensis, died Friday, June 18, at home. He was the husband of Majorie H. (Washburn) Sisak, to whom he was married for nearly 56 years.
Born in Portage, he was the son of Martin and Anna (Barna) Sisak. He attended Holy Trinity School in Swoyersville and Mt. Pleasant High School in Schenectady, N.Y.
He retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot as a heavy equipment operator and served for many years as a shop steward for the local A.F.G.E.
Mr. Sisak was a veteran of World War II, a founding member of the 4th Armored Division — "Patton's Best," and participated in the Normandy invasion landing at Utah Beach. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Tobyhanna and later at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Canadensis. He served as a lector and commentator, and was a coordinator of the Bingo programs at St. Ann's Church, Pocono Central Catholic High School, and Monsignor McHugh Elementary School. He also coached Little League, Babe Ruth League, and served as an umpire.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Steven T. Sisak of Bridgeport, Conn.; Capt. Thomas J. Sisak, U.S.M.C., Central Command, SW Asia, of Tampa, Fla.; and Paul V. Sisak of Middleville, N.Y.; three daughters, Patricia A. Sears of Coxsackie, N.Y.; Marjorie H. Yonker and her husband John Yonker of Coraopolis; Lt. Cmdr. Michele T. Sisak, U.S.N.R. of Canadensis; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Peter, Michael, Joseph, Frank, and Adam Sisak; two sisters, Catherine Barry and Mary Sisak; and one grandchild, Tanya M. Sisak.
Rev. Father Alfred J. Vito will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Canadensis. A private burial service will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
There will be a viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corners of Routes 940 and 390 in Paradise Valley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bernadette's Church, P.O. Box 14, Canadensis, Pa. 18325.
