Bernice was born March 5, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to her late parents Charles and Mable Lempp. Bernice and George met in 1946 at the wedding of a friend. She attended the wedding with a girlfriend and met George, who was also attending with a friend. The two men asked the two girls if they could walk them home and as George dropped Bernice to her home he asked for home phone number. She obliged, and they were married in November of 1948.
George and Bernice lived in South Farmingdale after their marriage. Bernice did work for some time in the clerical field, but she found her joy in caring for the children of neighborhood moms. She accompanied George, now retired from Nassau County Police Department to numerous police functions and activities as well as The Moose Lodge of Lindenhurst. She was a phenomenal bowler at Farmingdale Lanes.
Surviving Bernice in addition to her beloved husband, George; is her sister Thelma Smith and nephew Gregg Smith both of Minot, North Dakota and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Genevieve Huffman.

With Bernices' love of animals and all the care she gave to strays in her community; In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Bernice's name to Bide-A-Wee and Last Hope Rescue.
