HUGHES, Sara Marie Koehler, 87, of Center Valley, Pa., formerly of Wheeling, W.Va., and Brockway, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, in St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem, Pa., following a short illness.
She was born on February 24, 1920 in Wheeling, a daughter of the late William and Anna McCaffery Koehler.
Sara married Robert V. Hughes on September 1, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1974.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling. While living in Brockway, she was a member of St. Tobias Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Rosary Society; and was the head of the servers for church dinners. She also worked for many years on election days at the voting precinct located at the Senior Center. She was a Girl Scout Leader for Keystone Tail Tree Council.
Sara enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, and being with her friends.
addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Koehler and Charles Koehler; and a sister, Kathryn Ann Ruch.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Kostecki and her husband, Jerome, of Center Valley, Pa.; three grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from noon-3 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Kepner Funeral Home, National Road at Bethany Pike, Woodsdale, Wheeling.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, with Father Anthony Cincinnati as celebrant.
Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
Rosary devotions will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
