Sarah Milnes was born in Lowell, Mass., July 6, 1833. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Milnes, who came to Whiteside county in 1842, and purchased a claim in Clyde. They returned east the same year but a few years later came back to this county. The deceased was married to Frederick (Frederic) Wood Dec. 30, 1852, and to them were born nine children. One son died in infancy but the others survive and are Joseph, Thomas, and Mrs. Charles Kennedy of Clyde; Mrs. Wm. Beswick, Mrs. Robt. Cochran, and Mrs. Pierre Jackson of the city, and William H. and George of Bozeman, Montana.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood resided on a farm in Clyde until about twenty five years ago when they moved to this city. Mr. Wood died several years ago and since then Mrs. Wood has lived with her children much of the time. Lately, however, her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Beswick, and family have lived with her. Mrs. Wood was as estimable lady beloved by those who knew her and her loss will be keenly felt by her family and friends.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Episcopal church in this city, Rev. Edwin Weary of Sterling officiating. Interment was made in Grove Hill cemetery.
